Mitchell Broadwater

Yale University
Mitchell Broadwater majors in Political Science and International Relations at Columbia University, where his attention is focused on environmental issues. His previous internships include a summer working in the applied Physics Lab at Johns Hopkins University, studying Chinese in Beijing, and assisting the principals of a private equity firm. He is a rower on Columbia’s Heavyweight Crew Team and serves as a Resident Advisor. As an Institute scholar, Mitchell will spend this summer near his hometown of Chevy Chase, Maryland.

Mansur Buffins

University of Georgia
Mansur Buffins attends the University of Georgia. His mother, a teacher, pushed him to excel in school and he was consistently a straight-A student. He excelled at the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology, which was ranked as the third best public high school in the country, but he realized that is passion was not in the STEM field, but History. At UGA, he double-majors in Social Studies Education and African American Studies. His hometown is Snellville, Georgia.

Daniel Jellins

University of Chicago
Daniel Jellins attends the University of Chicago. He has interned for a member of the Houston City Council, the Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives, and a member of the United States Congress. Today, he majors in Law, Letters and Society while contemplating a future as a Supreme Court Justice. A committed presidential historian, Daniel has visited several presidential libraries and has amassed a substantial personal library of his own. Daniel grew up in Houston, Texas.

Bradley Jenkins

Georgia Tech
Bradley Jenkins is an Aerospace Engineering major at Georgia Tech. With a near perfect Grade Point Average and a near perfect ACT score, he was selected to serve as a Teaching Assistant for a Multivariable Calculus class. He is proud of the fact that the students in his class produced the second highest exam scores in the university last fall. He worked as a structural engineer for the Boeing Company last summer and worked last year as an undergraduate researcher for Space Systems Design Laboratory. Bradley’s hometown is Ottawa Hills, Ohio.

Nolen Keeys

Robert Morris University
Nolen Keeys attends Robert Morris University, where he is majoring in Engineering. He enjoys being hands-on, working with tools, metals, circuits and hardware. That interest, combined with his interest in medicine, influenced his decision to specialize in Biomedical Engineering. Nolen is a member of the National Society of Black Engineers and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. His hometown is Camp Springs, Maryland.

Delphert Smith

Loyola Marymount University
Delphert Smith attends Loyola Marymount University. He is majoring in Communication Studies as preparation for law school and a career in criminal defense or public interest law. At LMU, he participates in the Learning Community, serves as a Resident Advisor, and plays defense on the university’s lacrosse club. Delphert grew up in Los Angeles, California, only seven and one half miles from his campus.

Isaiah Whitten

Northwest University
Isaiah Whitten is the first student from Northwest University to be admitted to the Institute. He spent his early years in southern California before moving with his family to Washington state, where Northwest is located. During his freshman year, he served in the Student Government as a Senator. This year, he is studying at the University of Oxford in England. He founded and leads the Oxford American Student Union and is active a Hillsong Church Oxford. Isaiah is double-majoring in International Business and Political Science and hopes to establish his own private equity firm one day. His hometown is Bellevue, Washington.
