Belk Endowment, the Institute launched a pilot project in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Charlotte Collegiate Institute (CCI) served twelve first-year students from five colleges and universities in and around Charlotte.

The students met with many of the region’s leaders every other Saturday at UNC-Charlotte’s downtown facility. For example, one of the most prominent Charlotteans, Hugh McCall, former chief executive officer at Bank of America, was the cohort’s first speaker. At the year-ending event, MC Pilon, the Belk Endowment’s board chair, acknowledged the success of CCI’s first year and encouraged Institute president William Keyes to establish programs in other regions of the state.
