In 2016, with the support of the John M. Belk Endowment, the Institute launched a pilot project in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Charlotte Collegiate Institute (CCI) served twelve first-year students from five colleges and universities in and around Charlotte.
The Charlotte program serves students from these schools:
- Davidson College
- Johnson & Wales University
- Johnson C. Smith University
- Queens University
- University of North Carolina at Charlotte
The students met with many of the region’s leaders every other Saturday at UNC-Charlotte’s downtown facility. For example, one of the most prominent Charlotteans, Hugh McCall, former chief executive officer at Bank of America, was the cohort’s first speaker. Many other public and private sector leaders followed.
