The academic Seminar on Economic and Constitutional Principles focuses on the subject of liberty and its broad application in American life.

After completing the seminar, students are able to make sound judgments regarding policies that affect their communities, our nation, and the world.

The course is led by Dr. Robert Bland (Washington Program Class of 2007), a historian specializing in the late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century United States, with a particular focus on the African American experience and the postbellum South. His academic pursuits encompass inquiries into racial formation, electoral and cultural politics, and the struggles surrounding historical memory.

“The Institute taught me to develop a spirit of inquiry. Information is the source of creativity, credibility, and leadership. Those who do not inquire are not fully prepared to serve.”
